One thing that is very close to the heart of Melissa D. Whitaker is compassion for others. Melissa was asked back in 2011 “what breaks Melissa’s heart?” At the core of it Melissa’s response was “women, children, and helping those in need.” Melissa gives time and money to the following two organizations. She feels that “to those whom much is given, much is expected.”

We encourage you to take a look at these organizations. If either of them touch you, please contribute to their efforts. You can click on the links below to find out more about each organization and how to give.

Compassion International

Compassion International

Compassion International is a child-advocacy ministry that pairs compassionate people with those who are suffering from poverty. The ministry releases children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty. The goal is for each child to become a responsible and fulfilled adult.

Compassion’s work has grown from modest beginnings in South Korea in 1952 when American evangelist Rev. Everett Swanson felt compelled to help 35 children orphaned by the Korean conflict. Today it is a worldwide ministry where millions of children are now reaping the benefits of one man’s clear, God-given vision.

Foundation for His Ministry

MWI was honored to participate in a 7-day compassion trip to an orphanage located in the Baja California region of Mexico. The orphanage provides care for 90 children in a loving environment. The Mission provides seven family units of 12 children each between the ages of 2 to 20 years old. Single moms live with the children providing a loving home atmosphere while a married couple provides the oversight of ten teenage boys. A nursery mother provides around the clock care for newborns and toddlers. Infants with special needs, such as cleft lip palate or other physical disabilities are also lovingly cared for by experienced staff. This ministry includes rescuing children, reaching the lost, and restoring the needy. Through these efforts, FFHM also runs Rancho de Cristo (Rehabilitation Center for Men).
